2010 Winter Olympics: Nearby Hotels

Both the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the opening ceremony for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will be held in downtown Vancouver (BC Place Stadium). The nightly victory ceremonies presentations will also be held there.

BC Place Stadium will seat approximately 55,000 spectators for the Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies, and features the largest air-supported stadium roof in North America. The enclosed venue offers many advantages in addition to protection from winter weather, with state-of-the-art lighting, projection, sound and special effects technology.

The city expects to see nearly 500,000 visitors during this time, which means getting hotel rooms in advance is going to be paramount. The decision will also have to be made whether to try to get rooms close to the main sporting events or the opening and closing ceremonies.

There are a number of hotels within a mile or less of BC Place Stadium if one chooses to be closer to the two main ceremonies. They offer different price ranges, although one can expect that the rates will be higher the nearer the time of the Olympics. Some of those hotels include:

The Georgian Court Hotel, a luxury hotel steps away from BC Place Stadium;
The YWCA Hotel, a budget family hotel the same distance away, less than .2 miles;
The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Vancouver-Downtown, exactly .2 miles away, located on Robson Street;
The Sandman Signature Hotel, another luxury hotel only a quarter of a mile away;
Rosedale On Robson Suite Hotel, another luxury suites hotel on Robson Street;

These hotels, and many others, offer the convenience of being close to the ceremonies at one moment, then being able to take in the spectacular downtown area of Vancouver, one of the cleanest cities in the world. Remember to book your travel plans early; it’s going to be crowded.
