Vancouver Science World

Looking like a giant golf ball in the sky, Science World is one of the most spectacular science museums in the world. Children and adults each find many of the hands-on exhibits fun and exciting, and if that wasn’t enough it’s also home to the Alcan OMNIMAX Theater, one of the largest theaters in the world, with over 400 seats showing a mixture of 2D and 3D movies, both entertaining and educational.

Science World contains five permanent galleries, a Special Exhibitions Galleries, the Science Theatre, and puts on a variety of Center Stage shows. The galleries are:

Eureka Gallery, which looks at how elements such as water, air, light, sound, and motion work. There’s also an area known as Contraption Corner, where one can learn how things like gears, electric circuits, levers and wheels work.
Sara Stern Search Gallery, which allows people to see how other creatures live, such as walking through a beaver lodge or seeing all sorts of animal and insect habitats.

KidSpace, fun exhibits for younger kids to play and explore

Our World, an exciting exhibition that takes an interactive approach to the topic of sustainability and how the everyday choices we make affect our world. Issues such as transportation, electricity, water consumption, garbage/waste disposal, and food production are explored.

Visual Illusions, brain puzzles and optical illusions to test your mental capabilities.

In actuality, Science World is actually supposed to be called the TELUS World of Science, after agreeing on a $9 million dollar deal, but most people still call it Science World. It doesn’t seem to matter all that much, as long as Science World continues offering a mix of permanent items and special show events to the public.

Science World is close to BC Place Stadium, home of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and as a family event one can expect that Science World will enjoy many visitors. There are plenty of hotels in the area where people can stay so they can enjoy their sightseeing during the day, then relax in the evening in luxury, including: the Georgian Court Hotel; the YWCA Hotel; the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Vancouver-Downtown; the Sandman Signature Hotel; and the Rosedale On Robson Suite Hotel.
